Hay Fever Club Begins! Ski Building and Workshop To-Do List
It’s that time of year again: the Hay Fever Club!! I’ll do my best again this year!! Calling it a club makes hay fever sound less like an illness. It’s about time I cut skiing back to about twice a week and get on with all sorts of other things!
To-do list
Decide whether to manufacture and sell handmade skis
Set
an order policy and framework, decide pricing, make flyers, build demo skis,
durability-test them, and create flyers to attract innovators.
Old Storehouse Workshop
Repair the earthquake-cracked
exterior wall; fill gaps after plaster painting; add trim to sliding doors;
install exterior lights; build a paint booth and router table; install a
second-floor stair door; level the grounds; build an outdoor shed; repair the
handcart; and make an additional outdoor table from signboard lumber.
Prototype skis (again, I couldn’t make them this season; ⭐ marks high priority)
- Mega-fat ski, darkmatter210, perhaps 160 mm waist: black paint with a window, white silkscreen logo, decide on a psycho-shaped template, lightweight core and powder flex, and either 2 mm flat camber or full rocker.
- ⭐ Narrow Ski No. 2 Type R: bubinga sidewalls, veneer sheet, thick laser-engraved logo, magnolia and keyaki core, cut processing, powder rocker.
- Rebuild a snowboard: clear laser engraving or printed-sheet design, cut the “TOTAN” core, decide sidecut, use a Japanese ash and Douglas fir wood beam, and add inserts to the sample board to make testing easier.
- ⭐ Metal alpine ski No. 1: 173 cm carving ski, about 78 mm waist; choose dyed fabric, all white, or clear titanal; Douglas fir and slim keyaki core with titanal top and bottom.
- Touring ski: Tateyama cedar beam structure with sawara, wenge stringers, and carbon; 112 mm waist; target weight below 1,700 g.
Templates
Update acrylic templates for binding-area
metal and insert-hole routing. Maybe make separate toe and heel templates.
Mill insert plates (about 600 × 70 mm) from bubinga, wenge, beech, or mizunara
oak.
Design and printing room
Test laser engraving and add
insulation. Test roll printing and AI design, test the roll printer, and test
pigment-ink graphics (two sheets of white paper, white-background photos).
Attic workshop
Add door trim to the press room.
Website, PR, and marketing
Build out the website, make
flyers and brochures, produce interview videos, present the work as a tourism
product, and create story content about wood.
Digital
Create a CAD-based ordering system for the
standard course, explain design and file-submission points, and make a
production schedule that clearly defines the goal.
Expand the shop
Concrete floor and roof framing.
Management
Prepare for inbound visitors, improve my
English, decide on a business plan, apply for financing, and build a
manufacturing and sales business.
Tuning workshop
Apply to replace machines and line the
interior with plywood.
New services
Full delamination repair, insert
installation, inserts for binding screws, fish-scale base treatment,
splitboard processing, and workshop options such as hot waxing and edge
sharpening.
